Appliance maintenance checklist

The useful maintenance is repetitive and a little dull: lint, coils, filters, gaskets, and temperatures. That is also the work that prevents the long repair guides.

This appliance maintenance checklist is the work that keeps the repair guides from becoming a monthly habit. None of it requires opening a sealed system, a gas valve, or a microwave cabinet. If a task is not in your model's manual, skip it rather than inventing a cleaner or a part.

Dryer vent maintenance

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission wants the lint screen cleaned after loads and the exhaust duct kept clear. Dryer vent maintenance means three places: the screen, the short transition behind the dryer, and the outdoor hood. The hood flap should move freely. Plastic foil duct is a poor choice. Rigid or semi-rigid metal is the usual recommendation in install guides. Pull the dryer out only after it is unplugged, and do not crush the duct when you push it back.

Whirlpool dryer maintenance and Samsung dryer maintenance and LG dryer maintenance all include that vent. Brand heaters differ. The lint does not. A dryer that takes longer and longer to finish, or that shows an LG Flow Sense duct warning, is telling you the vent is the next job. See how to clean a dryer vent for the screen, the short duct, and the outdoor hood, and dryer not heating if heat has already failed.

Refrigerator maintenance checklist

Refrigerator maintenance tips start with a thermometer. Keep the refrigerator at or below 40°F and the freezer at 0°F, which is the FDA food-safety benchmark. Refrigerator preventive maintenance also includes the door gaskets and the condenser coils. Coils may be underneath behind a toe kick or on the back. Unplug the refrigerator before you vacuum them. Do not tip the cabinet sharply.

Sub zero refrigerator maintenance and subzero refrigerator maintenance follow Sub-Zero's own assistance instructions for the condenser and, on models that have one, the water filter. The phrase changes between a space and a closed word in search, and the manual uses Sub-Zero. Clean what that manual names. Do not substitute a generic coil brush if the grille is a specific panel.

Replace a water filter on the schedule in the refrigerator manual, often about six months, if the ice maker or dispenser uses one. A clogged filter can look like a dead ice maker. The symptom guides are ice maker not working and refrigerator not cooling.

Dishwasher maintenance tips

Dishwasher maintenance tips are mostly the filter, the door gasket, and the spray arms. Rinse the filter. Wipe the gasket. Look for pits of glass or seeds in the spray-arm holes. Run a hot cycle with the cleaner your manual allows, or with none, rather than a random gel that foams.

Bosch dishwasher maintenance on many U.S. models does not include dishwasher salt. Add salt only when the manual shows a salt reservoir. Samsung dishwasher maintenance is the same filter-and-gasket habit, plus the drain hose under the sink. The full filter and vinegar routine is in how to clean a dishwasher. Standing water after that care is a repair, not another tablet. Start with dishwasher not draining.

Top load washing machine maintenance

Top load washing machine maintenance is detergent discipline, pockets, and the tub. Use the amount the washer manual names. Excess suds will pause a cycle and imitate a drain failure. Leave the lid open a little so the tub can dry. Wipe the rim. If the washer has a bleach or softener dispenser, rinse it so residue does not flake into the next load. Front-loaders need the door boot wiped as well, and the coin trap checked a few times a year. That trap is described in washer not draining.
